Cast On and Get Knitting at the Ashcroft Arts Centre, Fareham.

Three workshops for absolute beginners and those wishing to refresh the basics. During the sessions we will progress from cast on, cast off, through knit and purl and how they are combined to create different stitches, and we will finish with decreasing. Learners are encouraged to work at their own pace and experience level, through a mixture of tutor demonstrations and individual help.

Nothing quite beats the comfort of hand knitted socks! During this fun and relaxed workshop you will get to grips with knitting in the round, unravel the mystery of “turning a heel”, and learn how to graft live stitches together using Kitchener Stitch while you work on a pair of top down ankle socks.

Learn how to knit on the bias to create the perfect square in garter stitch, and then how to join these squares together to make a beautifully draping fabric. We shall then explore triangles and discuss how different stitch types affect the shape of the knitted modules.

Intarsia Design at Wyvern College, Eastleigh.

Learn how to translate a simple drawing or doodle into a knitting chart suitable for the intarsia technique of colour knitting. This chart could then be used as the basis for creating your own knitted cushion or bag. The first half of the workshop will be spent designing and the second half on sampling the designs in knitted fabric.
